How to Find the Right Shoe
Sponsored by Adidas

Left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot…. You’d think it would be straightforward enough, this running lark, but take a look at other runners when you are out pounding the pavements or jogging around the track and you will soon realize that everyone has their own individual style (or lack of, in some cases). In addition, every runner enjoys different running tracks. Some like to do nice trails, others prefer running on roads. Running brands offer lots of different shoes in different categories, but which one is the most suitable for you? Help yourself and see the different options explained below:

OPTION 1: THE FREQUENTED ‘CUSHION BOULEVARD
If you run on hard unforgiving roads, it is important to have a comfortable and durable cushioning system to protect you from constant impacts on asphalt. Therefore the ideal running shoe will be within the CUSHION category. The majority of all runners belong to this group - their gait pattern is more or less normal.

OPTION 2: THE WIDE ‘CONTROL AVENUE
Some runners look for the perfect combination between shock absorption and a little bit of extra stability to avoid turning too much to the inside with their feet upon landing (‘overpronation’). This is a clear indication to choose a shoe model from the CONTROL segmentation. These shoes have one thing in common: they supply extra stability on the shoe’s inside and protect the runner from this critical overpronation (which eventually could cause chronic pain during running). Runners who try on shoes from the CONTROL category will also feel increased support in the shoe’s upper.

OPTION 3: THE WINDING ‘TRAIL PATH
Runners who primarily run on uneven terrain (e.g. trails, mountain running, etc.) should start to go for the TRAIL shoe category and appropriate models. These shoes offer a special built outsole that ensures maximum grip in all directions no matter how muddy or steep the trail will be. In addition TRAIL running shoes have an upper construction which is protecting the foot in all off-road conditions.

OPTION 4: THE NARROW ‘ROAD TO COMPETITION
Runners come in all facets. Some of them will look for a really lightweight running shoe. They love to enjoy the benefits a shoe from the LIGHTWEIGHT category offers: lighter in weight with lots of flexibility in the forefoot. These shoes are primarily made to be worn in competitions or fast training sessions.

HINTS OF THE DAY:
  • Heavier framed runners (e.g. higher body weight, etc.) might be better suited with the CONTROL range as the entire shoe construction is more stable when compared to other adidas running shoe categories. These shoes will offer them that extra bit of motion control and shock absorption for comfort and protective reasons.
  • A point where unfortunately a lot mistakes are made during the selling process is the weekly mileage. Whether you just started running as a sport or if you are a regular runner who already knows more about his sport, the weekly mileage doesn’t say anything about which price category should be the most appropriate. In most cases, the higher priced running shoes are highly recommended for any type of runner as these models offer great protective benefits and comfort.
