My 5 1/2 yr. old son has wide feet and high instep, and the only shoes he would wear were Vans. His doctor said he needed more support and these are perfect! He loves them. They are lightweight, and have lots of room - I did order the extra wide to make sure and we couldn't be happier. Just hope they don't discontinue them. I ordered a Toddler 12W for his 11.5M size feet and there was about a thumb's width difference from the top of the shoe to the tip of his toe for room to grow. I will buy these again in a bigger size when he outgrows these since he insists on these over any other of his sneakers. If you order the wrong size, don't worry. It has great arch support and comes in a variety of widths. I have a 3.5 year old boy that wears an 11.5 WIDE shoe. We need an almost all-white sneaker as a uniform shoe for school. It is nearly impossible to find a mostly white sneaker in my son's size that is velcro. Stride Rite comes close, but you have to pay the same price plus shipping for their inferior (to this sneaker) "Austin" shoe. The second my son slipped this shoe on, he said it was very comfortable and began running around in it right away. It looked great on him and he wasn't tripping over in it like he had in a previous sneaker we tried from Land's End. We will never have to worry about searching for another sneaker again! This is the one we will purchase from now on. I have just one slight caveat, which is why I rated it a 4 for comfort (for fit). The velcro straps are not long enough once the foot is in the shoe. The shoe itself is wide enough, true to the WIDE fit we ordered; however, there is always about 1/4 of an inch of velcro exposed once worn. If I tighten the velcro to the end my son complains that the shoe is too tight. The exposed velcro picks up hair, dirt, fibers and other junk that makes it dirty. I have to pick stuff off of it every other day.
