It has plenty of room in the toe box for my wide feet and the heel fits snugly. I did not need any break-in period for these shoes. I purchased a size 8, which is fine for light summer socks. For about the past 2 years, I've noticed all my shoes are too short. I needed to go up a 1/2 size. This is one of the very few shoes I've found (in any brand) that actually comes in a 10.5. (Most skip up to 11). So I bought it completely on a whim. No prior knowledge of New Balance. It's fantastic. Fits beautifully. Comfortable and appears to be durable. Look:Shoe Width: Felt narrower than marked D-width too narrow - Zappos’ speedy service couldn't make up for the disappointment when I tried on this shoe. I bought the white/pink in the D-width. I have wide feet, but New Balance usually does a great job with their D-widths. This shoe was too narrow. As soon as I put them on I knew they weren't going to work for me. Just ordered them in the extra wide, hope this works better. My only gripe with the extra wide is that Zappos doesn't have them in the white/pink. I tried the right foot on when they arrived and it was fine, but this morning both tight and the left one more so. I'm going to go up at least a half size and see if that is better. I hope so.
