Light, nimble, responsive, and great on soft trails, but a lot of my mileage is on dirt roads now and the shoes didn't seem to have enough support in the forefoot. The balls of my feet started aching and I started worrying about stress fractures. I put some insoles in them, but that didn't seem to help much. I tried on the Attack 3s and didn't like way the new tongue design felt - it impinged a bit too much on my instep. I went with the Gel Trabucos that fit a bit better and have loved them so far. I haven't tried the Inov8 that one of the other reviewers recommends, but my running buddy loves his. Only issue is that it seems there is a little too much extra width space for me in the toes but it doesn't affect my running at all. 2007-01-19 17:03:28 ASICS Gel-Trail Attack 3 Reviewer: Anonymous from Silver Spring, MD Overall: Shoe Size: Felt a half size smaller than marked Shoe Width: Felt true to width Shoe Arch: Moderate arch support I like them, but they don't like me - I bought these to replace a pair of Nike Kyotees. The Kyotees aren't worn out, but were giving me problems from an inflexible forefoot. (I'm a 170 lb neutral gait midfoot striker, and run a large % of my mileage on trails.) These seemed to be the ideal alternative since they're light and responsive... no problems during a casual walk evaluation phase, so I 'got real' with them. In the first 45 minutes I thought I'd found THE shoe. Traction on a wet, muddy trail was middling, but I figured I could live with that since the shoes worked so well otherwise. Then the first problem - a hot spot on my heel after 45 minutes into the run. (blisters/hot spots are extremely unusual for me.) A day or so later I noticed significant pain in the balls of my feet. Subsequent uses confirmed the Attacks were the culprits... I'm SO hoping I can use them for more than short runs. Maybe they'll break in some, but I'm not optimistic... for comparison's sake, I got the Inov-8 Roclite 315 at the same time and figured that the Attacks would make the Roclites seem like a 'niche' shoe, just for sloppy trails. Now it seems the Attacks are the 'niche' shoes. I'm experimenting with more cushioned insoles in a salvage effort, but unfortunately the Attack isn't an 'out of the box' winner for me... I DO like the style and colors, but even there I encountered a setback. I described them to someone as being 'brick with orange-yellow trim' and when my wife saw them, she said they reminded her of McDonalds! (sigh.)
