These sneakers keep them and my feet stable and makes for a balanced and even stride. And soft leather BUT it is true that they run wide and about a full size (or more) large. I usually wear an 8 or 8.5 so I ordered the size 39. So now I just ordered the 38 (which is equivalent to size 7 or 7.5 which I NEVER wear). I hope the 38's fit otherwise I'll have to return both pairs. Look:Shoe Size: Felt a half size smaller than marked Shoe Width: Felt narrower than marked Shoe Arch: Excellent arch support Love 'em, but alas, EE was still too tight - I love these shoes for the shock absorption value, but even for an 11 extra wide (EE), they are still too narrow and New Balance doesn't make these in EEEE, which is really too bad. From what I read, there are lots of us out here who need these wider widths. I ended up purchasing the 1123s instead, which do come in EEEE and while they do fit, they don't compare to the shock absorption and look of the 992s, but alas, my feet have to fit in them. Everyone swears by the 992s and I'm sure I would as well, IF THEY MADE WIDER SIZES! I'm sorry to have to return them because I even liked the way they looked, which is a feat for an ll double-wide foot in sneakers! Zappos - you're the best. Poor Zappos, I've bought and returned a bizillion pair. I love these shoes. They are way comfortable right out of the box. They feel substantial, sturdy. I bought the grey combo and while the picture shows the darker highlights to be almost greenish, they actually are a somewhat darker grey than the rest of the shoe. I think they are good looking and not at all wacky (not that I have anything against wacky sneaks, but these are not). I did notice that my huge size 12s did look big in these. Let's face it, they are big, but some shoes make them look a bit smaller. Not these, they're barges, but comfortable barges. I'm a happy camper. The heel spur on my right foot only complicates my already hard-to-fit feet. Very high arches and a need for extra room in the heel added to a trend in shoes toward a low-profile for the heel… have made purchasing a new athletic shoe a major ordeal. For over a year I've been unable to find a shoe that felt good in the store but also held up to more than an hour's wear without causing pain. I ordered these shoes after reading many owner reviews of them and other style numbers; less than 36 hours later (Zappos surprised me with a shipping upgrade from standard for free to overnight also for free) the Fed-Ex truck pulled away from my door leaving me with very nice-looking shoes that required absolutely no break-in period to be completely comfortable without a single pressure-point for wear during twelve-hour shifts. I am beyond grateful. My very high arches are still routinely quiet after 14 hours in these shoes. The structure of the shoe is high enough in the back and roomy enough that there is no discomfort from my heel spur. I am going to be able to go back to the gym now that I have a shoe in which I can exercise without pain. One foot kept slipping out of the shoe the first time I wore the shoe on my daily walk and the beginnings of a blister became apparent. I assume this is because it felt wider in the heel than normal. I've never had this problem with any other shoe before. Other than that, the shoe had an updated style, it looked good on the foot, and felt very lightweight as I walked. After years of wearing Adidas sneakers I'm a NB convert and will never go back! I especially like the retro 992s -- they are extremely comfortable, definitely helping me get back into the running mode, and they look fine even with jeans when I run errands. I have a big problem finding shoes that fit and are comfortable to work in for the day. These shoes make my bad leg & foot feel good, but somehow, my good foot starts hurting on the ball of my foot after a couple hours. I'm hoping this gets better with time. It feels so good to have my bad leg & foot not hurt that I'm willing to give it some time to hopefully get better.
