The toe box is roomy enough that it keeps me from getting ingrown nails. I wear an orthotic for high arches and there's enough room in the shoe to slip the orthotic under the liner. The color is a dark woodland green and the tonal variations are subtle. The shoes work well with fall colors and jeans. And amazingly make my 9Wide feet look smaller. They have good traction on the soles. The wide fits my feet pretty well (just a little slippage in the heel, but not bothersome). I was hoping to be able to wear heavy socks with these, but they're a little too snug. This model is carried elsewhere, and the recommendation was that it ran small and to order up one size. I did this when I placed my order at Zappos, and the shoe fits well. The sole is stable and wide, with a deep tread, providing solid footing on wet or snowy days. The dark brown color makes my feet (size 11) much less noticeable, and I'm very pleased about that! The shoes look great for everyday wear, but are sturdy enough for serious walking. I love 'em. I usually wear size 8.5 AA, but I've always needed to get 9 AA in this series of New Balance shoes. Size 9 feels like 8.5 in my opinion. I use full length custom orthotics, so I remove inner sole and replace with orthotics and I'm all set to go. I think because the laces begin near the toe area that it makes for less "ceiling" room in the shoes and therefore causes discomfort. I also have a large foot for a woman. I bought these in size 11. This is always a problem for me. I opt for comfort but often that means a really large profile. This is the best looking casual shoe I have ever had the good fortune to own. When I pull the others out of the box to try on I feel like crying. They are enormous, with the huge soles sticking out at the sides, bands of color slashing across. I know the wide soles are supposed to add stability but am not running track I don’t think I need all that. What I need is the thickness on the bottom where it belongs. I also buy the narrow size. Why can't I get that in a narrow shoe? These fit a narrow foot fairly well with a narrow heel that is at least better than the other brands and styles even by this company. The Brooks S257 the best narrow fit with a nice narrow heel. This is my second pair of this shoe and I will order another in another color. Thanks. I have been looking for a good pair of athletic shoes that were not white or black - these are perfect. The only thing I would point out is that if you plan to wear this shoe without socks, you will want to know that the top eyelet has a sizeable rectangular piece of metal underneath the eyelet that is not fully covered by the padded tongue when the shoe is laced up.
