The ortho doctor suggested I get a pair of New Balance shoes and also told me to wear a tennis shoe larger than I was currently buying as this will give better overall support and allow the toes to have more freedom. I wear a 6-1/2 - 7 women's shoe normally but I now purchase an 8B in the New Balance tennis shoe. I purchased my first pair of 1223's in 6/07 and had excellent results with total healing of my medical condition. The shoe is very stylish, comfortable and well constructed. A new version, 1224, has recently been released but I decided to purchase a second pair of 1223's from Zappos which carried the clearance shoe. This is a great shoe for power walking. It supports the foot well and keeps your foot from turning inward by the extra stability the shoe has. Best tennis shoe I can recommend. The new version 1224 is constructed almost the same with around the ankle being a little lower in depth. It comes in great colors of purple or hot pink trim for women and orange for men. Great buy! New Balance has always been my brand. Upgrading to a better shoe for a race, I found the 1223s and immediately ordered them in a wide. Imagine my surprise when I found, after a week of running, that they were actually TOO wide for my feet! LOVE these shoes, am ordering another pair in a B width for running; will wear my C widths for every day. Incredibly comfortable. Oh, and I wear orthotics as well. They fit perfectly in this shoe. Very cool-looking shoes...I was salivating over these shoes, wanting to trade them in for my old classic grey new balance style...I need supportive running shoes...I ordered these in an 11, which is what I always order in running shoes, as I'm about a 10 1/2. The fit feels awkward somehow, with the foot feeling like it goes too far forward in the shoe. What a comfortable shoe - I need a wide shoe, so New Balance is the only way to go. This shoe offers good arch support and keeps me from rolling in as I walk. I am also 65 and have to deal with back problems and neuropathy in my feet and lower legs.
