I use to run in NB then switched to Asics when NB started putting a toe box on their shoes that sits high like the grille of a Chrysler 300. I decided to give them another try and I was mistaken. But since I ran outdoors in these I could not return and I purchased a pair of Asics. To be fair, these are comfortable and I use them as my gym shoes- I switch to the Asics to run. There is a lot of room above the toe and the extra material makes a snapping noise when I walk. But if you have big toes, this shoe may be what you are looking for. The NB 4E seems a bit wider than the Asics Gel 4E and maybe a tab longer, and since I have shoes from 7.5 to 8.5 depending on brand I am not sure what true to size/width means anymore. I've tried other brands, and have always come back to NB. One main reason - my wide feet -NB has the best width selection. Recently, I've been experiencing a knee problem - pronation. I've never had to purchase "stabilizing" shoes before - I've been lucky, after all these years. My new pair of 768s seems to have solved that problem. I've owned several pairs from cheap $40 and on up. These are the most expensive NB pair I've purchased. They look and feel great but they make this horrible squishing sound when I move in them. I replaced the stock insoles with a custom formed one, which I was surprised to have fit because of their size. The shoes were still comfortable and the squeaking stopped. THAT is customer service!! The shoes look great, though the new lace design seems pointless. (It is kind of bubbled.) I guess it keeps them from coming untied. The shoes are deceptively comfortable. The inserts look flimsy, but are effective. The shoes are cushy without the insert (not that I wear them without the inserts). So far, they have been very supportive. (They hold me when I cry). Ever since, I've been experimenting with different shoes. The Brooks Beast was very comfortable until I developed pain in my toes, as the toe box was too narrow for my feet. I just bought the MR768 and WOW! Soooo cushiony, especially in the heel, and very, very comfortable. Note: I buy large for my foot size to accommodate my orthotic inserts. (I wear NB 767 as slippers in my home). Wearing the 768 for a week now and no foot pain, though the Neuroma may take a year to go away. Plus it's a good looking shoe. Very comfortable shoe and no problems. Plenty of cushioning and support. like the silver/grey/yellow color as is doesn't show the dirt as bad as white does. If any downfall at all the shoe is a bit warm and doesn't breath as well as some others I have had ( of course it has been 95-100 degrees here lately). New Balance are more comfortable and offer more support and do not hurt my heels like the Brooks (Brooks too narrow in the heel area). The 768 isn’t the prettiest shoe in the country, but the awesome way it molds to your foot and comfort is what counts. Give them and Zappos a try before you buy elsewhere, ZAPPOS is the best in customer service. I also noticed that the all weather gray is consistently a smidgen wider than the yellows, greens, and blues. I guess that has something to do with the materials used and the tighter weave. I would say the colors are true to size, as compared to my 1007's, and the gray all weather is like wide with a +. My old running shoes are 991s - very muted colors, slim design, few extras. The 768 is quite different. It's larger with a bigger sole, silver reflector sewn in a lot of places, and just overall more flash to it. After wearing them one time I realized I had made an excellent choice. The shoe keeps my feet stable, but does feel like it’s giving me some extra spring in my step. That first run was a 6mi outdoor run, one of the first of the year, and my legs felt great after the workout. The only place where I had to spend extra time to adjust was on the treadmill in the gym, but now that feels great, too. I'll definitely buy this line of New Balance again - even with all the reflectors. I had some cheaper New Balances that I wore for nearly a year and the extra $ spent on these was well worth it. Zappos is also great. Benning, GA, and I've never looked back since. For my foot, this is the ideal shoe. They seem to have gotten a little more expensive as the years have gone on, but I received this latest version yesterday (Thanks Zappos!) and went for a nice run this am. This is my first pair of 768s and I love it. I am claysdale runner (200 lbs +), so I need a very strong and supportive sneaker. The 768 feels more comfortable and cushioning than the 767. One good thing about buying the shoes from Zappos was the variety of the colors. So far I only had one option of color at my local store, but with Zappos I get to choose from three color combinations for my size. Not a big deal you may say, but for me, after owning five pairs of the same sneakers with the same colors… a big one for me. Heads up with the size of the shoe. When I was using 767, I was a size 12. With the 768, I am a 11 1/2. Keep that in mind when ordering the shoe. The only bad thing about the sneaker is the increase on the price made by New Balance.
