With walking/running shoes made primarily of mesh these days, it's hard to find something that won't leave your feet sopping wet when it's coming down. They're definitely not snazzy in the looks dept. (although better than some), and are not cool or lightweight either, but with leather uppers and only the smallest amount of mesh--they do the trick for this purpose. Other shoes recommended by reviewer: New Balance is the best for wide feet. They look very good but the fit is not good at all. I got the wider shoes too and he still complains that they are narrow. Hopefully will fit better after some use. I have bone spurs on both big toe joints, and I was happy that the toe box was very roomy. I was able to tighten the laces enough to prevent jamming the toes against the front of the shoe (a lace puller for my figure skates was a BIG help). The insole pulls out for custom orthotics. They have really good traction, but I don't run after the ball as fast as others in my classes.
