I run a marathon or ultras about every other month and bought the Brooks Cascadia 4 for trail and path running. After putting about 100 miles in the shoes, I can safely say that the Cascadia is the most stable and grippy trail shoe I've run in. The toe box is roomy, the interior upper is smooth and does not cause blisters, and the tread lugs provide confident traction. My only issue is that the shoe could be less stiff and rigid (perhaps the sole is overbuilt to protect against rocks and debris). If you buy this shoe, buy half to one size larger than normal. Good feel for the trail and they fit like a glove. Not a lot of cushion, but plenty for singletrack trails. My longest run has been a half-marathon so I can't say for sure how they do for longer runs, but I would guess they'll do just fine. 2009-10-30 15:43:28 Brooks Cascadia 4 Reviewer: Jabez H from Spokane Washington Overall: If you are going to spend this much and you want the best all-around shoe for all terrain and all season, this is the one! I am 6'2";, 190 lbs, neutral runner with high arches. I run 15-20 miles a week on mostly pavement, some single track, and occasional treadmill. I have never been disappointed with Brooks ever. They have taken me on six mile, muddy trail runs with elevation gains and losses over 2000 ft, and they have proven themselves on road races up to 12k. One wouldn't think a trail shoe would do very well on a treadmill, but these shoes perform on any surface. They breathe in hot weather, but don't freeze my feet in the snow. The traction is stable on wet pavement, leaves, pine needles, even sand. I used to run Montrail and nothing else. When I heard that Scott Jurek (ultra runner champion) was designing this shoe (Cascadia 1), I had to try it. Needless to say, I don't run Montrail anymore. I ran the sole of of the Cascadia 2, Cascadia 3, and I just got the 4 today. Ran four miles and they are perfect right out of the box. I might add these are the best looking of all the Cascadias. Don't waste time looking for a better all around shoe, this is it, buy it, you will not regret this purchase! 2009-10-23 06:31:15 Brooks Cascadia 4 Reviewer: Helen D from Colorado Overall: My husband loves these shoes! They are incredibly comfortable. I love Zappos! Your customer service business model is incredible! Keep up the fantastic work! 2009-10-03 18:35:03 Brooks Cascadia 4 Reviewer: Carlos M from Tampa, FL Overall: Excellent running sneaker built to ACTUALLY run in. They are super comfortable and very cushy. The bottom of the sole is unique as it has no arch on the outside. As such, the soles can get a little slippery at times, but it\'s not something that a little scoring doesn\'t fix. I love these sneakers and I love the fact that I can take them both on road and off-road. On top of all that... They look great! 2009-09-12 13:00:12 Brooks Cascadia 4 Reviewer: Dan l from gig harbor, wa Overall: I bought the red/grey color scheme. Looks good and extremely comfortable. The only con is the grey material; it is similar to felt (nubuck?). Otherwise, great shoe. 2009-08-13 07:11:56 Brooks Cascadia 4 Reviewer: Anonymous from Rolling Hills of Southern PA Overall: Huge fan of the Cascadia 1 shoe. Ever since then they have gone downhill IMO. Purchased this version 4 hoping it would be a good shoe. Nope. Not for me. Plenty of people like them but I am not one of them. Too soft and squishy for trail shoes. Very unstable on uneven terrain. I ran several 5 to 8 mile trail runs on them and hated them. Purchase Salmon Speedcross 2's and love them. Low to the ground. Minimal amounts of cushion and light. You may indeed like these as many do but if you want a low to the ground low cushion shoe look at the Speedcross over these. My 2 cents. Unfortunately not a stability shoe (which it is categorized as by Brooks). I'm using green Superfeet and still not enough arch support. Bummer. Nice looking shoe, too; just better for a more neutral runner. 2009-06-12 22:10:48 Brooks Cascadia 4 Reviewer: Mijoma Overall: Pretty good shoes, I get shin splints easily and they didn't help that too much, but they are very comfy just walking the trails. I def. recommend you use these on the trails as that is what they are designed for. 2009-04-20 08:58:15 Brooks Cascadia 4 Reviewer: Anonymous from Pittsburgh, PA Overall: Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to width Shoe Arch: Moderate arch support Real COMFORT! BROOKS makes a fantastic shoe! Easy to wear all day... feels great. Fit orthortics well... nice deep heel bed. Highly recommend! They are a true trail shoe. If you plan to run on the road in these- dont. They are made for the rocks, mud and dirt. Super comfy, not heavy or too much padding. This is my 2nd pair and perfect for long distance trails. 2009-04-08 16:07:46 Brooks Cascadia 4 Reviewer: Bob Vayo from Salt Lake City Overall: A great trail running shoe! I am a daily trail runner and have used New Balance and Adidas trail shoes previously, but purchased the Cascadia 4 after reading reviews in a couple running magazines. They are true to size and feel broken-in right out of the book. They have a roomy toe box, and a great fit through the forefoot and heel. Great traction and stability on rocky trails and through mud, and the sole clears mud well. I highly recommend this shoe. Other shoes recommended by reviewer: Brooks road running shoes also offer a great fit and excellent durability. 2009-03-16 10:07:22 Brooks Cascadia 4 Reviewer: Kent M from Hills above Santa Cruz, California Overall: Shoe Size: Felt a half size smaller than marked Shoe Width: Felt true to width Shoe Arch: Moderate arch support KGM Brooks Cascadia 4 and Recommendations - The Brooks Cascadia 4 is a good all around running and walking shoe that is very comfortable. This shoe can be used when running on a wide variety of surfaces including treadmill in the club, hard packed trails (not so good for loose dirt, mud, or rocks), streets, or sidewalks. I use this shoe for these situations. However, if you are looking for a dedicated trail running shoe, I recommend the Vasque Aether Tech SS, which provides superior footing on all types of terrain including muddy trails, sand, dirt, rocky areas, and hard pack, but is not so good on the streets. Get the SS version since the regular version has mesh uppers (as does the Cascadia 4), which let in dirt and sand and watery mud, whereas the Vasque Aether Tech SS provide uppers that screen out these materials. In addition, the Vasque Aether Tech SS give you innovative coated steel wire laces and knob tightener, providing the flexibility necessary for trail running, whereas the Cascadia 4 provide standard shoe laces. If you really want a shoe for both running on concrete and some limited trail use, the Cascadia 4 is a good choice. Compared with the Cacadia 3, it is about the same in terms of feel and performance; the 4 just has better styling in my opinion. Other shoes recommended by reviewer: Vasque Aether Tech SS Top | ||
